Wondered if the knowledgeable could advise.

Our estate has 2 front speakers on the dash as you would expect but unlike some estates does not have speakers in the rear doors but has them in the tail gate. Does this mean it was supplied as std with 2 speakers and the ones in the back have been fitted later? Also can I fit speakers to the rear doors or will it need lots of wiring?

Any insight would be appreciated

Thanks

Hello

Yes and yes and yes and no.

The speakers in the tailgate are aftermarket.

124 rear door speakers are a factory option and fit in the arm rest, some 124 estates have speakers cut into the rear door card.

To fit them, as a minimum you need to cut a hole in the doorcard, mount the speakers, run the wires through the stock rubber tube twixt door and frame, and run the wire to the headunit.

The headunit will need to have the facility to power an extra pair of speakers.

The easiest answer would be to find a donor car in a breakers which has the rear door speakers then take all the bits required .

As above running the wiring is the biggest bit of the job . Even if you have an old radio with only two speaker outputs , you can get the fader control that goes in the centre console as fitted to some cars ( I have a couple of them lying around if you need one ) .
