As I'm having some 17" AMGIIs refurbed as I write this I have a set of good condition 15x7" 8 holes with very good yokohama tyres on that may go to susidise the change. Does anyone have an idea what I could sell them for? If they are not worth a huge amount I'll be keepng them as spares.

Entirely dependent on condition. You need to factor in the cost of refurbishment if they are not in good or excellent condition. I seem to recall getting £250 for a set of 8-holes of the same size but they did not need any work really. I guess you could get near to £100 even if they are rough, due to their comparative rarity.

They'll be gathering dust in the garage then.

I recently sold a set of W124 15-holes (not sportline, 6.5J) with tyres that needed replacing. The wheels were tidy, but not immaculate.

Made just over £200, which surprised me :)

Try eBay - people are often looking for original MB wheels to restore back to original, or to refurb whilst others are in use, or for winter tyres etc.

I'm going to save them I think. It'll be worth it just to give the wife something to moan about. I'll keep them next to the old zetec engine out of my westfield, that even moved house with us and always prompts a few mardy moments at least once a week!

Mardy, what a great word.

dont hear that so much since i moved away from Lutterworth in 81.

s'cuse my ignorance here, but are the 8 hole alloy wheels on a sportline 124 different from standard 8 hole alloy wheels?

regards. R.

They look pretty much the same. just slightly wider: Sportline alloys are 7J, standard 15" 8-hole alloys are usually 6.5J to accommodate a slightly wider tyre: 205 as opposed to 195.

would it be detremental to the handling of the car to run J6.5 tyres on a sportline and vis versa?

I wouldn't have thought it will make an awful lot of difference. It's still a bit of a barge with 205/60 on 7" rims. I'll probably regret fitting the 225/45 x 17 tyres as I quite like the ride / handling compromise that I currently get. The new wheels were very much an impulse buy based on the fact the car originally came with 17" rims and I wanted it back as it came out of the showroom.

The suspension on a 124 is much more supple than a more modern car. I hope the 17s will be fine as I also have a set of AMG IIs waiting to go on when I bring ours back from Italy next month. Be interesting to hear how you get on.

I think your car will come back quicker from Italy than my wheels come back from West Bromwich at this rate. I've gone for a set of Uniroyal tyres as they apparently have quite soft side walls so hopefully this will mitigate against the change. My wheel choice is all about aesthetics so I'm not bothered about the ultimate handling. I'll update with my findings once rimstock let me have them back.
