Car
W124 300 E // W211 320 cdi
Folks, took the old w124 out of storage, starts on the button first time idles fine.. After approx 20 mins once engine is up to temp it starts losing oil pressure and sounds like it's struggling to stay running. Then just dies, and doesn't start back easily

I have changed the ovp and fpr but suspect all I might have done is just replaced for another faulty one..

Is there any way I can read codes using a generic reader which could give me a better idea which part I need to change
Thanks
I

Well we all need to fill in our profiles .Thats the section under your name on the left That done,, then everyone will know at a glance what car you are talking about .As it is i need to ask you now , what model W124 do you have. There are over 10 modelsod W124s and guess work wont help you .

Sorry didn't realise I hadn't added car details on profile

Its a

MERCEDES-BENZ 300 E

Profile is important.. it lets us all know what car the problem is on ..Thanks for that What condition is the battery voltage regulator like ? Also what voltage is there in you battery . .Delb0y when did you last replace the ht system . Most problems we have are 90% electrical . So first thing i do is change plugs,, plug leads,, distributor cap,, and rotor, Bosch re[placement parts are the only way to go .This done you can forget it for years . Clean earth points along with fuses in the fuse box .Then look at all the vacuum nylon pipes for splits and cracking rubber joints .Then let us know .

Losing pressure more than the usual drop due to viscosity change with temperature?
and sounds like it's struggling to stay running. Then just dies, and doesn't start back easily
As it's dying, what's going on at the tailpipe - eg, black smoke and smell of fuel?

Presumably your car predates (I can read dates but not VINs) OBD and therefore old school diagnostics only - ie, symptoms as it dies. Before you get started on that, check the distributor cap for moisture inside (hairline cracks, track marks too) - a well known cause of dying when warm on pre COP MBs.
