w124 vacumm pipe query

hi all

While working on my 230e ( 1990 w124) over the weekend I came across what appears to be a loose vacuum pipe but I cannot find any place to attach it to.

The vacuum switch has an electrical connection on it and is located in front of the battery compartment while the tube passes through to the engine bay.

What does the config do and should that pipe be connected to anything as it appears to have some sort of mesh/filter inserted into it

Just a stab in the dark-is it the vacuum pipe to the headlight which controls the height adjuster mechanism? pushes onto the back of the headlight if so.

That pipe shouldn't be connected to anything, it is a vent for the vacuum system.

I think you will find it is the 'Upshift delay switchover valve'.
