I've got a 1994 W124, and I cannot find a leather steering wheel - airbag model- with Zebrano wood at the top and bottom.

I have seen plenty with mahogany wood, but I am quite particular about detail, and the wood needs to match the wood dash. Can anyone help?

Zebrano is the (ahem) less expensive wood, walnut being an option. Given the wood/leather steering wheels were also an option, you probably won't find one with the non-optional wood.

Try Gericia

I drove a Nautic Blue 1993 E280 the other day with Mushroom leather and Zebrano. It took me about half an hour to notice it had Zebrano and I really liked the combination

It doesn't work with some colours, or with cloth, but with Mushroom leather it's great

Hi

I know what you mean it is a problem I tried getting one for my w124 coupe in zebrano and got one of fleabay and turned out more of a mahogany wood.

Kept that one and decided ethier to French Polish the trim (quoted nearly £500 for removal re laquer and fit) but went for other option of replacing to walnut trim from a donor car.

The result was a lot nicer looking interior than Zebrano now very happy. Just a thought for you.

I like the zebrano, because it seems more in-keeping for the car, and the more expensive walnut doesn't convince me on this model. Thanks

one thing to note with that ebay wheel.

I fitted a W202 wood/leather wheel to my W124 saloon last week - original 124 airbag fitted fine (actaully the 202 had the same part number here). BUT the metal trim for the horn was slightly different - where you would bolt it onto the wheel, it was raised. You could of course fit longer bolts in..... but what i did was use the W202 metal trim. What i'm saying is make sure it comes with the horn metal trim if its not a genuine W124 part just incase. Saying that the other wood wheel i have (bought from a member on here) was a 90's SL part (i think) and the metal trim from the 124 fitted it fine.

Either way you will be OK but you may need to buy longer bolts depending on what car the wheel originated from.

i'd say if you want one, snap the ebay one up quick - they are quite rare i believe and its a reasonable price.

wood/leather wheel makes a HUGE difference to the feel of a 124, hence why i updated the saloon shortly after buying the estate wheel.

EDIT - just checked the pictures on the ebay ad. It does come with the metal horn stuff and you would have to use this as it states its a W202 wheel. Your existing airbag will fit straight on.

derek

quote SilverSaloon you've not been looking hard enough: ;)

this guy has been trying to sell this for about 2 months now and keeps relisting it.

I'd be inclined to email him and offer him a bit less....

will fit fine.[/quote]

Thats the one I got and the first one arrived and had a bad defect in it the guy replaced it and sent another one in excellent condition.

The only thing was both were mahogany (deep rosewood as the french polisher that I contacted stated) def. not Zebrano and IBW of Works124 had to modify to fit the airbag electrics for my w124.

The sells plenty and they arrive direct from Germany. Also the leather was a dark grey and I had to get a leather paint to make it black.

The finished result is excellent now after a bit of work and the matching walnut trim.

Sorry to deviate slightly, but where would you look for an earlier non-airbag C124 steering wheel in either walnut or zebrano?

If you get one I would definitely not go for a new one or a reproduction until you colour match it by taking it to the car.

I looked at a trim piece for my W124 and even the same wood style didn't match due to the effects of UV. As it is only a tiny bit of damage i'm having it repaired by a furniture restorr when I get my interior changes done.

Dave!

In south Wales there is a garage called Mercs spares and repairs. They got a huge scrap yard. They might have what you need. Call them 01633 421 666.

Hope this helps!!

Hi,

I am looking for grey leather interior with door cards, rests and head rests for an E220 (W124) 1995. Can anyone suggest something?

I've been following e-bay for a while now but it only seems to turn up for CE models or coupes.

Thanks

i suggest you post in the wanted section, putting this as a reply here wont get much interest!!

google for merc breakers and phone/email them, or just keep an eye on ebay and also for cars breaking on ebay

speaking for myself i have seen several W124 grey leather saloons being broken on ebay recently. make sure you search for w124 etc NOT just E220!!! also dont just keep to 1994 models - earlier models will also fit and will be the same. might be worth getting bits from several cars. a few months down the line you will have all the parts you need to make a complete interior

How would one spot the difference between zebrano & walnut, I know it sounds silly, but im no expert on wood!

Also what is the trim in my W124 Cabriolet likely to be?.....

Cheers

probably walnut - more common, especially on later models.. zebrano you can see the grain much easier.

search some pics and you will see the differences
