Hi all!

I've been opening my w140 with the key-blade and ignoring the infrared
thing, as its had a problem with a dodgy alarm. The mechanic told me
today that I can only do this a limited number of times (80-90 or so)
before the immobiliser will kick in, and then I'll have to use the infra red
key to get it going. Anyone ever heard of this?

Cheers,
Karl

close, but not correct - there is a procedure for bypassing the alarm unit, (which im not posting on an open form...) which allows 99 starts with the key.

but the w140 key isnt that clever. the IR just locks the car.

try new batteries, re-syncing the remote (as in the manual, unlock, open door, zap IR twice quickly, insert key and start.) or disconnecting the battery for half an hour or so (remember the radio code...)

Hello

Appologies for contacting you out of the blue, but I have a W140 S500 which I am concerned as it gets older with the very complex electrics may one day lock me out if my one working remote key expires. Is there a way of deactivating the alarm/immobiliser, or a way of having it start the 99 ? times before it locks out again.
This was what you kindly messaged someone a while back who had a issue with their car

I have a 94 SL. Unique (I think) to the UK models the alarm/immobiliser only sets up using the IR remote. Using the blade leaves the car unarmed.

I may well consider just using the key, and locking all the doors manually; might seem odd with me concerned about this, but have heard of these cars being too costly to repair once they hit electrical problems, and ending up broken up. I'm trying to remove all potential future headaches and keep this lovely car alive for a few more years. Thanks as always for all help and guidance

Hi
I'm new to this forum and wish to seek help with my S500 W140.
Its registered Aug 1993 and according to previous owner she served in the UK Qatar embassy. She's been sat outside unused for about 10yr. It was a dud fuel pump. Don't understand the logic of having 2 pumps in series. The dead one prevented the still working one from getting fuel out to the engine. I replumbed to the workplace ng pump and got her running. The ride is sublime and she ran ok. Then I played with the infrared key and pressed the central locking button on the console. The immobiliser kicked in and shes been immobilised for 3weeks now. I've had her battery disconnected for days, ran a lightbulb across her battery leads without battery for days, tried the resync procedure, but she won't crank over. Each time upon reconnecting battery and entering the car, either via IR door entry or ignition on, the immobiliser kicks in. No crank.
Ive tried looking for a K40 relay in engine bay but no luck. Looked behind passenger footwell steel plate and no luck, although I've spotted a red/yellow wire I can't find a black/purple one, nor a small box these wires go in and out of.
I so wish to defeat this immobiliser as it's such a pain. Any ideas please?

Thanks for that. My Remote Central Locking works fine off my single button IR key fob. Just don't understand why car is still immobilised.
The red locking and green unlocking IR receiver on the doors and boot lock work. Am stumped.
Help!
