There was, became the S420 when Mercedes had their big model designation switchround.

I'd typed it from memory, so could have got it wrong. Just checked and the car was indeed not a 400SEL, but a 500SEL.

The 400 was offered when the w140 1st came out, then in around 94 When they faclifted the w140 they badged it s420
