W163 Central Locking Problems

Hi, Just bought a 51 plate ML 270 CDI, a couple of problems have reared there head, the hassle is the central locking will not work, if you lock the drivers door with the ignition key it only locks the drivers door.

I have had a look at the main fusebox under the bonnet all the fuses are all ok, so what would you suggest I start to look next?, any help would be great.

The 2nd thing I need to do is adjust the handbrake, I have not had her on the ramps yet so it may be straight forward, but any tips would be great.

The key blade will lock/unlock the drivers door, it will not operate the central locking of the rest of the doors.
The key blade is for emergency locking in the event that the central locking or remote control stops working or if the car battery is completely flat and you can’t get into the car.

Can’t help with handbrake.

Hi Dec,
Thanks for your reply, I suspected that it would of worked the central locking off the key blade, so will try some new batts in the keyfob and re program the key and keep my fingers crossed

The parking brake set-up is like most conventional handbrakes with adjusters in the rear hubs, and under the centre of the car there's an adjustable 'Y' tensioner.

Thanks Jane270ML, for the advice on the parking brake, they are holding just to much movement when you press the floor pedal to set the parking brake, so I suspect I would just need to adjust the cable underneath, so will give it a go later.

It might be PITA, but I think the shoes should be set to the drums first - then set/check the 'Y' link, however, I've only done this job once before so I'm happy to be corrected by a more experienced techy.

ML320 W163 blade key does Not lock all doors

No central lock by key remote button,
Problem:- cannot "central lock" with key, Key Unlocks all doors but won't lock ? Console central lock bounces door locks if drivers door open, (we can lock by closing front doors, climb in back door & "console central lock" all doors & get out OK.
Is there a fault or Is it Impossable to "Key lock" without "Key" central locking working ??
Am I fixing what is not broken ?
I have door apart & all seems OK (Not stripped lock yet)

You may have the de bump’sie door lock fault, try a tooth pick like in video to see if it works for you, as a temporary measure.

If the tooth pick doesn’t work, ask Joy to hold down the door lock pin as you lock with the remote, this is just to test to see if the lock button on the remote is working properly.

You need the spring to hand before starting the repair so don’t remove the lock just yet.
