ml270 cdi
Hi

I bought a ML270 CDI and need some advice, After a few days of driving the coolant light come on so I topped it up with water and drove a round trip of 100 miles and the coolant light come back on so I left the car for a day until the mechanic comes round on friday,

Having checked today i have no coolant left at all and the pipe going it to the top left of the radiator has gone completely flat .

Whilst driving my temp gauge was at 85-90 so i have bought a new thermostat and would really like some advice as I'm really worried that a have bought a car with heating problems (head gasket)

The temperature is exactly where it should be.

To lose all the coolant there must be a leak low down in the rad, water pump or one of the hoses. Is there any coolant on the floor?

Can't think why the top hose would collapse other than it wasn't properly filled up in the first place?

Best wait for your mechanic before jumping to conclusions:thumb:

couldn't see if there is any water on the floor as we've had bad weather hope its not the dreaded HG

Are you having any starting problems? Any white smoke on startup?

Was it a trader or private purchase? Any warranty?

What's the mileage?

the mileage is 98k it was a private sale and no smoke on start up and no starting problems at all and no warranty

Mine has been spilling coolant and it wasn't until I changed my waterpump that I found the culprit.
My bottom hose has a small hole caused by something rubbing on it. It wasn't easy to spot until the hose was out of the car.
It's definitely worth removing both hoses and inspecting before you spend a fortune on other things.

i have the mechanic coming tomo to fit my sump gasket and check my coolant problem and have bought the thermostat, with a bit of luck its a pipe of a cracked expansion bottle

Make sure you have a genuine MB header tank cap fitted.
