W163 new tyres query

Hi everyone,


We have a W163 ML320 X reg. Still on original tyres at 42k miles, MOT advised thinking about replacing them. However the original Dunlop Grandtrek 225/75/16 104H are no longer available and I need advice on a good replacement.

The available options seem to be Hankook or Kumho, with the Kumho having a better rating under the new EU system. I am not familiar with current tyre manufacturers.

What have other W163 owners fitted?

I fitted Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S tyres to my pathfinder. Would highly recommend!!

My car is 2004 model (facelift) with 17" wheels, the tyres are Continental 4x4 Contact M+S 255/60 R17 106H

Seem very good, although this is my first MB, 4x4, diesel... so can't compare.
The tyres were new when I got the ML, 2 years ago, done about 10k, still got loads of tread & grip in the worst of weathers.

I'd talk to someone at Camskill or Black Circles for a recommendation.

Have always used Michelins - hard wearing and various chaps in the trade seem to like them. Cosco is doing a deal on them (includes free fitting and valve) but you have to fork out about £25 for membership. Alternatively, try Blackcircles.

Thank you. The problem is the size, few makers have it. I think it will have to be the Kumho.
