W164 Bluetooth Options?

Picked up my 2007 ML 420 last week and I'm trying to find which Bluetooth adapter I need for the centre console and if the is an iPhone 5s cradle option at all.

I've searched the forum but my results seemed to draw up old threads.

Thanks in advance.

Guess I'll answer my own question then...

HFP definitely works, and sounds a good option, SAP isn't supported by iPhones.

Your thoughts on the W164?

Isn't Viseeo a good choice? Bluetooth music streaming too then.

Here...

I had a Viseeo MB4 and the sound quality was dreadful for streaming music, and it also seemed to drop calls a lot more than the HFP's I've had in the past.

I don't need the phone module to play music through anyway, I just use one of these: August MR230B - Bluetooth Receiver - For Speakers / Car Stereo / Headphones BGD | eBay, the quality is excellent and it simply plugs into the aux and they're an absolute bargain compared to the other options.

Your thoughts on the W164?

Compared to the RR Sport, it's taking a bit to warm to it if I'm being honest.

Positives: Quieter in the cab, interior from drivers perspective is good, plenty of toys, feels more stable at higher speeds than the Sport.

Negatives: Doesn't float like a RRS, parked next to the Sport it looks like a Hyundai, interior plastics feel cheap compared to the RRS, doesn't have the road presence of the Sport, to say they are both of a similar age the RRS has full postcode search but the ML doesn't. There's more but I can't think of them now...

It was mid 2008 before the updated Satnav platform got introduced with 7 digit post-code, proper iPod (Media Interface) option, bluetooth in the COMAND itself, etc etc, and yes the system before that (NTG1 and NTG2) was specified at the end of the nineties as it first appeared in the W211 E class in 2002 and is feeling tired now.

Having taken both apart, ML's interior is better assembled (less likely to creak, fall off etc), but agree about the plastics, the dashboard really needs to be better (and was leather covered on certain later models)

But that 420 Diesel engine is great !

The Mercedes iPhone 5 cradle does not work with that system as there is no Bluetooth pairing in the head unit (and it is just a phone charging and antenna cradle)

Thanks Richard , which unit would you recommend? The MB-4 I had before wasn't very good, maybe I had a duff one? Never had problems with the HFP units though.

I agree, the V8 CDI engine is a peach! Even though the ML has 40bhp on paper, it doesn't feel that much more powerful than the TDV8, although that might be down to the gearbox differences.

One other thing I forgot to mention was that the 'leather/suede' seats hasn't worn as well as the RRS, but has done better in other places.

I think I'll go for an HFP unit, my local dealer will sell me one for £200 (and they're in stock) so I'll probably go down that route.

Thanks again.

How much do you want for it?
