Hey, hopefully somebody here can help me.

Im looking to buy an aclass (05-06) and wanted to fit a new comand.
I tend to do lots of driving to different places so need a good sat nav and phone connected via bluetooth.

The car im looking at currently has a Comand but it appears to be the older version. Am i right in thinking the sat nav on the older system isnt very good? and doesn't have full post code search?

I have been quoted £2K to supply and fit a new system, but would this be cheaper if i buy the car with a command in currently? (i.e can they just swap they over using existing cables).

also can anybody recommend a place that will supply and fit cheaper?

thanks in advance.

NTG2 supports 5 digit postcode input. If the car comes with it try it out and see if you like it. If not upgrade.

You can certainly retrofit Comand NTG2.5 (the latest unit) cheaper than £2k and recoup some of the cost by selling the older unit.

You can pick up the NTG2.5 for ~£600 on ebay for the single dvd. The one with optional 6 dvd changer are a couple of hundred more. One on auction at the moment from a UK seller. 169, w169 ntg2.5 items - Get great deals on Consumer Electronics, Vehicle Parts Accessories items on eBay UK!

Wiring kit can be purchased from: Comand Online Ltd Email them with your VIN and they will tell you exactly what you need.

Comand Europe based in Woking, Surrey can do the retrofit for you and if required supply the unit and parts. Comand (Europe) Ltd - Great Deals on Mercedes Comand & Retrofitting Installations

Thanks, I will try the older system first (if i buy that car).
Can you recommend anywhere that will retrofit cheaper?

Braybrook quoted me £1700 and Comand Online £2000

I assume them prices are for the 6 dvd changer units. I dont think they make the single dvd units anymore but you can get them on ebay. Unless you really require 6 dvd changer just get a single dvd unit. You still have the single dvd, 4gb music register and SD card slot.

I got the unit off ebay and had Alfie / Richard at Comand Europe fit and code, worked out the cheapest.

Sounds like a good idea.
Would it not be cheaper to buy the unit direct from them?
Is there somewhere i can see the difference between the NTG2 and NGT2.5 ?

You will have to ask them for a price then compare. I dont know if they supply the single dvd unit as like I said they dont make them anymore AFAIK.

NPUK, thanks very much for your help.
The new system looks much better, but i will try the old one (if i manage to buy this car) and see how i get on. Its a lot of money so im just worried about blowing 2K to make only a little difference.

Npuk,
Did you buy your unit from the UK or somewhere like Lithuania?

Do you know the user ID of the seller?

Wanting to go down this route myself but don't want to be left with an expensive brick!!

Cheers

Dave.
