I've just bought a 94(M) C180 Esprit. So far it is lovely, just a couple of questions about it (I don't have a hand book, yet!)
1) The central locking pump in the boot is missing, is it specific to year/model? There are a few on a well known auction site.
2) Are there speakers in the rear doors as standard? The wiring is there behind the stereo but not connected.
3) should it have remote central locking? I had a look inside the drivers door and it looks like there is a solenoid fed by two wires?

Any help would be greatfully read.

Thanks. :D

Indeed so. There are a couple of multi plugs and a yellow pipe. I started running out of daylight when I looked to be honest. There is a formed polystyrene holder there too, just the unit is missing!

I have a pump if you are intrested. Not all have rear door speakers as standard. It should have central locking.

I do need one, so yes... Interested! just a little concerned why it is missing. Are they prone to fault?

You need a preface lift pump

Easy fix if you want to connect up rear speakers

Also your car would have central locking off the key you can buy aftermarket kits to turn it into remote 30 to 40 pound or their abouts

Nice car I hope you have many years of good driving you can do so much to that car as so many are being broken

Like put rear electric windows in change interior trim upgrade to face lift bumpers only if you want too

Only 1 yellow pipe?
Be careful there are many different units for these 202's. My saloon has a different unit to my estate, but they both have a lot more pipes than yours. I would have thought that you would have had at least 8 pipes.
1 for each door
1 for the headlight adjustment
1 for the filler cap release
1 for the rear headrests
1 for the boot release
I replaced mine on the saloon last week and surprisingly (or not) it had a part number which was similar to an e class A210 *** ****
If you post me your VIN number I'll check the correct part no. There is a guy on ebay that has a large stock of these pse units priced at £20 each + postage. Not a bad saving of £350 on the MB price!

best I re-investigate the pipe situation! There is definitely a yellow pipe there with a push fit connection, could be more lurking deeper in the depths!
As for the upgrades... I am probably going to do the electric rear windows, is the wiring there already? and look at a different interior one day. I am a bit of a sea fishing fanatic and at present I don't know if my rods will go in it! I may get an Elegance interior and take out the panel in the rear bulkhead so that I can use the ski hatch. Who knows, early days yet. I am happy with the pre-facelift image and won't go beserk with the outside!

Also , and i don't know if it applies to the 202's , but on the w168 A class , the vacuum pumps need to be coded to the car once fitted.

Worth checking out further.

Mine was just plug and play Howard, but a valid point nonetheless as so many components on these cars do need to have the 'star' treatment

Normally a superior paint finish on the early cars!

The rust on the rear arch hasn't broken the surface lol. I have a bit of dreaded tin worm to sort out, looks like the battery has seen to the battery tray over the years but nothing a bit of time and effort won't sort.
It flew through the last MOT with ridiculously low emissions so hopefully I have a keeper.
New on here and I am going off topic!

Fingers crossed I wont have to get the pump coded, that's an inconvenience! I'll have a look in the rear doors tomorrow to establish the speaker issue and as for the remote central locking, I'll look into what the little solenoid thing on the top of the lock mechanism is for. I thought there may be a tell tale sign whether it was fitted, a sensor or something. It has an alarm fitted, sensors on the A pillars and a red siren on the O/S inner wing, no remote for that though. I only have one key which I think was the spare.

pic!

You should have the alarm reset in the glovebox. These alarms were Scorpions I believe they nearly always became troublesome in later years. No parts available anymore.

Hi,
The CL Pumps on the prefacelift cars do not have to be coded, the coding (if required) was only on the facelift cars then it was,nt a CL Pump but a PSE Pump.
My 96/97 build C230K (prefacelift) has only one yellow pipe so i expect the O/P is correct that there is only one pipe.

Thanks for clarifying that Andy. It's a while since I had my pre-facelift!
Coding not required on facelift models.

That's that covered that then! Look for the pump with the yellow pipe only and leave the alarm alone and forget it is there!

Thanks for the great help :thumb:

fantastic, not a stupid price either.
