W202 auto gear selection adjustment

I have a 1998 W202 C280 auto that I am experiencing problems with the gear selection. Putting the selector in to drive or reverse does not always engage the gear. Moving the selector back into neutral and back into drive or reverse firmly usually solves the problem. I'm told the problem could be the selector mechanism requireing adjustment. Grateful for any ideas how this might be carried out if not too difficult or suggestions of anyone might carry this out in the South Yorkshire area.

I broke a bush in the mech once and the selector was loose, but selection was a problem. Not sure that helps you, but just sharing an experience.
