Hi Ya i have a W reg (2000) merc benz c200 automatic just recently it has developed a fault it somtimes sticks in 3rd gear, when it does the is a small whine that comes from the passengers side, if i stop and turn the car off then turn it back on its ok again for a while (roughy 20mins) i dont know if its the gearbox or clutch any help or advice would be much apreciated

Tony

First thing is to get the fluid level dipped and the codes read, then ATF and filter changed as it could be a blocked filter.

hi dieselman thanks for that i have a fluid dip tool but i dont know where to put in in sorry for sounding stupid lol thanks

and also which filter and any perticular fluid?? iam assuming there is a drain plug underneath somewhere and i refill where ever i still the fluid dip tool??

The dipstick goes into the tube at the r/h rear of the engine. Measure with the gearbox hot and engine running. Run through all the gears then dip by pushing the dipstick in until it hits the bottom of the gearbox sump.

The filter is inside the gearbox sump. If changing it get 8 litres of new fluid, depending on whether your car has a torque converter drain plug (it may not) filter and sump seal.

Thanks guys as soon as the rain stops i will go look and get back to you after
