W202 C220 CD, Problems with my new used car, now regretting my choice...

As said - you need to be realistic here.

The OP has bought a ten year old W202, it has displayed one (probably simple) fault and the garage that have sold the car have agreed to repair it.

What is the big deal? Cars are only bits of metal and plastic, they go wrong, they get fixed.

Look at the number of people who have bought brand new MB cars that go wrong - should we just burn or cube every car the first time they ever need a repair, because they can no longer be trusted?... :dk:

it's the compensation society. people are always looking for some-one to blame.

Right..so if you buy a 10 year old car from a dealer for top money, you can expect it to have faults....sorry my mistake....

Where has the 'top money' come into this (?)
And fault(s) - I thought we were only told of one fault.

Sorry to say it - but yes, your mistake. Whether new or used, cars can suffer from faults - I really don't see what point you are trying to make.

Let's wait and see how the OP gets on once the garage have had an opportunity to rectify this.

Hi guys, nice to see a bit of discussion about this. I bought the car for £2150 with no mention of warranty, however the garage has agreed to look at it. I hope its quite simple as its quite a nice car. Will be going in on Tuesday. Will the garage need this star diagnostic equipment to find the fault or will a generic reader do? So ot could cause these symptoms?

Star is preferable. You bought a cheap car. You will enjoy it. I did the same last year...yep things went wrong...to be expected. Worst bill ( because I didn't get my hands dirty) was £100. But in this instance and probably under goodwill the next couple of things will be sorted for free. No problem.

Is it coincidence ? Are you and SLK related?

I would guess its a faulty 'maf'

ps..........faulty mafs dont always throw up a fault code.

+1
even brand new pattent ones! as i found out!
it cleared the code but ran like c**P
and wouldnt idle!

UPDATE: - Merc went back to the garage today and a shed load of codes were found. When I originally picked up the car battery was flat, mechanic reckons this could of caused these. As there were so many codes he cleared them and asked me to try again so the fault could be identified. He also said if maybe fine now the codes have been cleared. I decided to take the car for a long drive 80 miles and guess what?...it was fine. Is this normal occurance with codes?

some times!
most of the codes must have been "low voltage" codes due to the battery bieng flat!
fingers crossed that nothing comes back then!
