Hi all

Ran a search with no luck - having a few issues with my 250td if anyone can help:

1. Cruise control is not working - the Limit yellow light illuminates, but cruise does not engage. The BAS light is on - would this stop cruise from working?

2. Interior fan switch not working - this seems to be because of the switch itself as it has been bypassed by the previous owner, and works with a switch that has been installed.

Pictures will follow - would appreciate any advice.

Also forgot to ask - there seems to be a problem with the gear selector also - in Drive it needs a wiggle of the gear stick before it starts to change gears automatically.

Any clues?

Gear selectors fail. Easy replacement from above. Try cleaning it first.

bas fail will stop cruise. Can be the module under the diaphragm which is fiddly to replace.

fan switch is a crude fix,to say the least.

Look in classifieds theres a 202 being broken......

Thanks Guy,

I intend to fix the fan once I know how - it was carried out under the previous ownership.

Will give it a clean, but of the selector is prone to failure will get another.

Am thinking to get a diagnostic onto it - have one somewhere to help find what has triggered the BAS. Ill be asking for other parts - worth asking for the BAS module also?

Try searching for brake light switch, a common problem that brings on the bas/asr light. Where abouts are you?

Hi,

Would brake light switch stop the brake lights working?

I am in Bromley, Kent (close to SE London).

If I were you,I wouldn't bother to repair anything there are cheap C classes, just buy one without faults..

The brake lights can still work with a faulty brake light switch,it's the contact on that
switch that sends a signal to the ecu to tell it to reduce fueling that may of failed.

Let me rephrase.

The brake lights are working when the pedal is depressed.

Could the sensor still be faulty?

Martyz is on the same page - apologies for the ambiguous question Guy.

The car is mine now for better or worse, so will do what I can to improve its condition.

Will try to get its error codes read in the meantime.

Update

It was the brake light switch!

One on order as ECP sent the incorrect part.

Sprayed the gear selector with electrical cleaner and seems to be working better now. Am searching for a used replacement selector in any case.

One thing I have not been able to work out is what was wrong with the interior blower - need to understand how it works to undo the fix currently in effect. Interestingly it only blows hot too...

Only blows hot is usually duo valve. Under brake diaphragm. Bit of a pig to do.

Thanks Guy

I know that you mentioned this could also cause BAS light to illuminate.

Diagnostic showed brake light switch as a DTC so am changing to eliminate this.

Likely what you mentioned will also require changing.

Anyone know someone Kent or SE London based who can do the job?

Theres two things in this area. One is the duo valve, its two pepper pot size things with 30mm pipes. Its fiddly but not skilled. It controls the hot vs cold water in the heating.

the bas module is further down, and fag packet size. It might also be the bas sensor, which is a stick thing under the master cylinder iirc.
