I have noticed that the pinion seal on the diff on my C250 W202 is leaking so I am gonna replace it, does anyone have the torque setting for the nut? or is it better to mark it and do it back up to the same point?

Thanks

David

Unless its leaking very badly I would be inclined to leave it alone. Most diffs leak a bit with mileage even mercs.;)

unfortunately its leaking rather too much so I have got to do it

Mine was leaking just slightly, I have bought the seal, but decided to just leave it as it was. Later the leaking has stopped, or at least there were no drops of oil on the housing. The torque was around 330Nm as I remember.

As you won't be able to measure the amount of preload properly just do the nut back up to the original position.

C180s and C250s (near enough the same diff) always seem to weep diff oil, it's well worth replacing the seal and they do fail, and are very difficult to sorce as they are prone to faliure.

i would check the torque required to do the nut up to the same point, and add 10%, making sure that enough torque is achieved to hold the nut in place. (on my Jag this was 135nm, however i couldn't achieve this, so iu loctited the nut in place and prayed, ok so far)

FWIW, if we are talking about the same thing, "Collar nut, joint flange to drive pinion", WIS has two torque settings listed for the C250 Diesel (202.125 with the 605.910):

Nm > 90 "except code 450"
Nm > 130 for code 450
