OK, this is for the W202 owners..........

I remembered to bring this up, after getting the usual stares at the petrol station recently.

On both my C-Class' I have found that inserting the pretrol pump nozel the normal way up (ie the trigger underneath) makes the pump cut out regularly and does not really work too well.

Only when filling the Merc, I insert the nozel upside down, which I find works much better.

Anyone else get this?? It took me a while to figure out when I first got the C200.

Or do I need more practice at inserting my nozel???

yeah - very annoying !!

Turn it 90 degrees to the right when you have inserted it

(so the bottom of the pump handle faces the back of the car)

works for me !

I get the same, the petrol pump keeps cutting out. My method is to not fully insert the nozzle but only poke it in a little ways, well enough so there is no danger of spillage but not 'fully home'.

I used to have to do a similar trick on my previous car - '86 190E W201.

i know exactly where you are coming from, i have found that some of the newer pumps, this doesnt happen!

i normally end up standing there for ages and letting petrol trickle in!

could it be the little air hose on the petrol filler cap is blocked? or partially blocked?

might stick a coat hanger down it to see if it clears it up!

:)

Not just me! Good

Turn the hose 180 degrees from how you would normally put it in and try.

Makes it work purfectly!

I wonder how the design of the UK pumps is different then? They're totally pants if you're not used to the infamous 'cut-out'.

I think it is something simple like the diameter or the shape of the nozzle/filler combination.

Yep me too, I turn my "nozzle" upside down  I think its the dreaded "splash-back" that causes it to cut out. - LOL

I havent had any problems with this car yet.I wonder if it's a problem with the nozzle on the petrol pump not been very good?I have had similar problems with other cars tho at some garages its fine, others a bit dodgy.

Ive never had any trouble, I think the problem is, people press the trigger down to hard, if u only press it a little, you should never have any cut outs

I want to be able to fill up asap - full triggle all the way LOL

Yeah, but after u press it a little, it makes no difference to the speed it goes in!

I have to do the same, if I put the nozzle all the way in it will cut out constantly, but pull it out a little and its fine and never any spillage.

hey guess what, I have the same problem with a W124 260E but not with the 200T? I noticed though that on the 200 there is no plastic flap inside the filler tube on the car, wonder if this has anything to do with it.
