My 97 facelift W202 is a bit poorly at the moment.

At any time of the day when the engine is started it really struggles to fire up.
When it does happen, it refuses to rev above 2500 rpm.
When it is warm it will only rev up to about 5000 rpm but pulls quite well.
I have checked the air filter and it was surprisingly clean.
A friend of mine is bringing out a new MAF in a couple of weeks so I am hoping that will make a difference. As far as I know the car is on the original MAF and it only has 91,000 miles on the clock.
Is there anything else I need to check over?
