Hey Guys

I was on the M1 last night, all was well till I got stuck in traffic for about an hour, I watched the temperature gauge raise to about 120 i was worried so i turn the engine off in traffic, Started moving temp went down and in traffic again it went up so i decided to get off M1 at the next exit which was about 150 yards, and a BIG BANG, SMOKE!!!!!!! and after rolling the car to the hard shoulder and the car cool down discover it wasnt smoke it was STEAM from the radiator there was a hole ripped on the top of the radiator. But Guess what guys I didnt have breakdown cover, i had to join on the stop. it cost me but oh well my stupid fault. The car starts. It was towed to the mech last night, just got a call now new management so I need to get the car out of there.

How much do u think it gonna cost to fix?????
I need EPC code for the Radiator
Thanks

Cant quote you a part number without more info about year of manufacture and engine size/type etc. You could look it up yourself here of course. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb.asp

Hi

W202 1996 Elegance, Thanks for the website, but am confused on the site

I would have said that the plastic impeller has broken on the water pump, there are modified pumps now

You will need a new pump, radiator and a thermostat

Use the link put up by Grober next 202--- use the next 3 Vin numbers and you will find your car and all of the parts

You could save some money by using GSF

You can find quite a few more! It seems to be quite a common problem! After mine went, I replaced the radiator and components myself. I then had the whole system checked and they couldn't find anything wrong!

Grumble...

A word of advice, if this ever happens again (your temp going up, not the explosion) roll down all your windows, turn the heater on to max and pump as much heat out of the engine bay through your "passenger heating" system.

Was your bonnet damaged? Mine has dents from "the inside"!

Your radiator is going to cost you roughly £160 from a dealer + any other parts that broke (on mine these were, the sensor, the clips, the little rubbers under the clips, the fan shield, and the radiator water cap)
