Hi all,

Just bought a C36 w202. Does any one have any idea how the sideskirts are supposed to be held in place? The passanger side skirt seems to have either come off or is not being held properly. I tried to have a look yesterday but couldnt see whats wrong. Its come loose at the front arche where the skirt would normally meet the wing. Does any one have any idea if there are clips that are supposed to hold it in place?

Heres a picture of my car, Hope you like it! You can just see where I mean, as the skirt does not line up quite straight. Any help would be great as its really starting to annoy me everytime I look at it!
Thanks!

Josh

See [THREAD=45812]this thread[/THREAD] - though we never did figure out which part it was...

Edit: Might be item 206 here.

Car looks nice, the loose sill has been covered before a few months back, I believe that you have to remove the wheel arch liner to get to it.

Wait for some more answers

Sounds time consuming so far. What have MB said about it?
Lovely car btw :)

The bit sticking out is held down with an adhesive pad, over the years road grime builds up and it eventually stops sticking.
The items that need to be removed I will reference to the parts diagram.

To get the sill off you have to remove the grey strip (212)from the top of the sill , its a self adhesive film that should pull off to reveal 9 screws(209) which should be removed. Beneath the sill there are 6 plastic expansion rivets(246) which should screw out. Also there will be a large plug or 10mm headed bolt near the front of the sill that will have to be removed(not listed). At the rear there are two press in plugs that will just pull out(206). Twenty minute job that can be done with the car on the ground.

The self adhesive strip(215) is a few quid from Mercedes and the long grey strip(212) that covers the top of the sill is about £12 or so. You will need this as it will be damaged during removal. Make sure everything is thoroughly cleaned and degreased before attaching the adhesive pads.

Good luck.

Hey guys, thanks so much. I had someone telling me that the adhesive strips were not a mercedes part and that my side skirts were fakes! Glad to know thats not the case. Any one able to supply the part numbers for the stickers and the grey strip? I cant seem to find them on the diagram, I can only imagine my local dealer wont be to much use if not going from experience!

Thanks again

When I fitted my Facelift sideskirts to my pre-facelift I didnt need any tape!?!

I have just looked at the AMG retro and no tape,, all clips all the way along, and there are 3 in the front section that is loose

Hmm bit strange isnt it?

Tape is a stupid idea any way,but doesnt look like I have much of a choice!

Yeah already have, its deffo tape. I was confused at first because i assumed there were also clips which might of been missing but apparently not then! will give mercedes a call tommorow:)

On the first cars it was actually velcro! Theres still an AMG part number for the material.

The skirt will fit without tape but the skirt will flex and start to stick out leaving a lovely gap!

Later cars used a different fixing method but yours is the first generation that was based on the construction techniques used by AMG.

As an example the engine is hand built using lots of custom made parts at great expense (still available from Mercedes for £25,000 if you ever need one!)whereas the later C43 is virtually a standard production S430 engine with a few extra BHP.

Yeah, its velcro on my car! I didnt realise I looked again today. I orderd the sticky pads from mercedes earlier today though, so I hope I can replace the velcro with the pads:crazy:

Mine had the velcro too, the sticky pad is the improved replacement as the velcro picks up a huge amount of dirt and stops doing its job.

Also when refitting I would suggest you line the panel up first by loosely putting in a couple of fixings in top and bottom before removing the second piece of backing on the tape. Once these things stick adjustment is virtually impossible and you will have to remove it and use another piece if you don't get the correct fit.

Just found out that mercedes have gone back to the velcro pad and the hook part of the fitting is not available seperately, only as part of a complete new side skirt.

Best to leave the hooked part in place and clean it up with a stiff brush.

I will find a way to keep it in place if its the last thing I do! :P Thank you for your help

Side trims
