w202 stalling, losing power - auto

Concerning the ECU if that ever did fail wouldn't it be cheaper to find a replacement at a quality breakers yard that has come of a crashed car rather than a dealers?I know if I was ever faced with a similar situation I would look at a breakers first.

When an ECU fails and needs replacement there must be components on the unit which can be identified as faulty and replaced for a few quid instead of hundreds, surely ! We live in a society of throw away circuit boards, from first hand experience in my line of work I can have an electronic circuit board fail on a air conditioning system, identify the failed component by sight and obtain new components from RS components or purchase an entire board, obviously from a business point of view there is more profit in it for me if I sell a complete board assembly with probes etc than repairing it.(I sometimes do repair boards on obsolete items) There are plenty of electronic engineers who must be able to "recondition boards" because when your board is service exchanged for a new item your old board must be repaired and sold on again.

Well, touchwood its been 100% fine for the past 10days no trouble at all. I guess it was getting used to the new air filter?

Strange things have been happening with mine the last two days after getting it back from the body shop,Starts up ok but wont tick over properly and sometimes even stalled (on 3 ocasions) when putting into drive then trying to pull away.Found the problem eventually after working on the car today with all the doors and boot open for most of the morning. The battery was drained, not being used for 12 days and with them working on it as well it hasn't been getting any charge in the battery.A few hours on the battery charger and all is well again. :D

But hasn't the alternator charged the battery up again on the drive home?
Check the voltage being output to the battery, it needs to be 13.5-14.5V.

No it woudn't. I think as they bought it back on a car transporter then me only living 2 mile from work the alternator wont have had time to put sufficiant charge in the battery. Also I suspect my battery is soon to be past its sell by date which doesn't help.
