Guys

Just bought my 2000 w202, its got xenon headlights but one of the headlights seems higher then the other! Is there anything i can do to correct this..?

Many thanks for you help in advance.

Cabvw:)

I think the xenons are auto levelling, if one is higher than the other all I can think of is that the auto levelling system isn't working as it should...

Its perfectly normal for one headlamp to be higher than the other on "bi xenons" so that on coming traffic is not blinded - passenger beam should be higher than the driver side!

Headlamp beam pattern should legally be the same for all headlamps regardless of bulb/headlamp type.

The auto-levelling system has no actual knowledge of individual headlamp unit aim! There are knobs on each headlamp unit so that you can fine-tune the alignment. You should ideally get a workshop with the correct equipment to do this (like an MOT testing station) but you could always drive up to a wall with it and align them yourself ;)

The latest MB advert for the E Class on their web site, majors on the fact that the nearside beam shines further than the offside, and also that above a certain speed, the beam stretches out further so you can see more. Very clever. With Bi Xenon the beam is controlled, I think, by a shutter that comes down over the bulb.

as shude says 3 knobs per headlight for adjusting the reflector inside, nothing to do with the auto levelling!

They will still have some knobs on them for fine-tuning ;)
