W203 C220 mpg/running temp

Hi

I've just bought a W203 C220 estate and am wondering what mpg other owners are getting?

On a 35mile commute to work (mixture of M-way, A roads and B roads) I'm getting high 30's on the way to work and low 40's (no more than 43mpg) on the way home. Running temp rises to 80degC and stays put. Is this normal or should I be getting more mpg?

As an aside, my wife has a CL203 C200 and on a similar journey the car is only getting up to high 30's, but the running temp never rises above 70degC (I'm thinking the car needs a new thermostat?).

btw both cars have OM646 engines with 5speed autobox.

I am told my I6 OM648 diesel should run at 92C - have changed thermostat and now it does - perhaps your engines should too - but check, I am only an eggspurt

Do you have a DPF?

No dpf's on either car. I also just read that the thermostat doesn't fully open until 87degC, and that they are week point on those engines - so I think both cars could do with new stats.
