The front discs and pads on my 04 plate C class (C270CDI Avantgarde with sport pack) need replacing after less than 30K miles. The set that are fitted at the moment were bought from German and Swedish and I am a little suprised that the discs have only lasted one set of pads -they weren't the cheapest option and I don't drive that hard! I normally expect that a set of discs would last 2 sets of pads.

So I wondered what mileage everyone else is getting out of a set of pads and discs?

And the other question - what makes of discs and pads do people recommend?

Thanks

Charlie

My 2005 model 270CDi has the big brake upgrade and I bought replacement discs and pads from my local Merc dealer in Jan 2010, with discount for the car being over 4 years old.
They cost £52 per disc and £54 for the pads. So far they've done 40K and there's plenty left on them, though I do make a lot of long journeys.......
I'm expecting my discs to last at least two sets of pads.
Hope this helps

Thanks - I hadn't considered getting them from a Merc dealer, I'll check into their prices and see how they compare with others

Always, always check dealer prices first. Otherwise how do you know the price to beat?

I have always used MB parts and front pads discs tend to last ~45k. That said I'm more comfortable changing the discs when changing pads especially if the discs are quite ribbed and the drilled discs tend to develop ridges.

It's easy enough to knock the lips off the outer edge with a pad and I've cleaned the cooling holes using the correct sized HSS drill bit. There's a lot of metal in those bigger discs too, so they'll stand some wear until they get down to the minimum thickness

Unfortunately they're almost down to the wear limit now (just 0.1~0.2mm remaining) with the pads pretty much gone so they need replacing rather than tidying up and skimming.

I was just suprised at the wear rate of the discs themselves.
