my c270 cdi is making a funny nice when i put my foot down and the revs drop back to idle, it's like a whooshing noise somewhere near the turbo. The mechanic said one of my pipes seem to be on the blink. There's smoke coming out the back, quite a bit infact under slight acceleration.

Anyone had this problem before? We're going to jack it up and check every pipe but any pipes where I can pitch base from?

oh and the noise is coming from the left side of the engine bay near the turbo. The air inlet pipe to the turbo seems fine gave it a little wiggle nothing loose there

It will be a split pipe to or from the intercooler. Happened to me last week and was a bugger to find.

Would this have an affect on the turbo boost valve? It doesn't seem to be working at the moment

It would lack power.

Check the intercooler too. They split.

Same happened to me some weeks back. Split intercooler pipe

if the intercooler is split I think the car would benefit with a larger aftermarket one.

Me too - i had a split intercooler pipe recently.

Doesn't seem to be any leaking pipes

The mechanic says that He can squeeze the pipe which goes towards the cylinders..the big rubber pipe at the front. He said this should be full of air and impossible to squeeze. He checked the turbo boost valve with a pump thingy and it worked..but when we rev the engine it doesn't move.

He says at the moment it seems the EGR valve isn't working properly.

The whole front end needs to be stripped to check the pipes thoroughly and the egr valve needs checking.

how much is a new EGR valve?

Ignore the EGR for now and look at the intercooler by taking the bumper off.

Update

Took the bumper off

checked the intercooler, pipes and Egr Valve.

All seem ok.

Now we're both left scratching our ****s

mechanic just phoned me, said there's oil around the turbo and on the pipes and he says my oil breather is full of crap so he's going to change that.

Could that whooshing noise be because of the breather?

I doubt it.

I think your original post has the problem and Ian Walker has the answer.

The smoke is due to the MAF seeing an increase of airflow which isn't getting into the engine, but the increased fuel is.

since changing the breather the whooshing noise has gone. However the mechanic has pointed out a new concern.

Standing behind the car with the engine on he told me to smell the exhaust. It smelt very odd. On top of that my eyes started to burn. He then made me stand behind an e300 turbo diesel and there wasn't that strong of a smell nor did i go blind

Anyone know what it could be?

my car smells like that but i think its because ive changed all the injectors and havent had them dialled into the ecu yet ,Been like that 4 months or so and now only does 30 to 32 to the gallon and done 20000 miles like that :o Also does it matter if your intercooler is covered in oil ? Both the w210 320 cdi's ive had have been like that and i havent ever bothered with it ?

whooshing noise lack of power

ive had this problem today whooshing noise lack off power maybe a bit of smoke this is caused by a split turbo/intercooler pipe 56 pound from mercedes easy 5 min fit the smoke should stop as when split it lacks power and overboosts which cause the smoke :bannana::bannana:
