W203 central locking problem

I've just got back from my hols and my car (merc 220 cdi coupe 52 plate) has developed a problem with the drivers side door lock.

The passanger side and boot will lock, but the drivers side will continually lock/unlock quite fast about 5 or 6 times and the pin jumps up and down while it's doing so. When it finally stops the pin isn't all the way down into the door card, therfore the door hasn't locked! I have to press the keyfob several times until it closes fully with the pin inside the door card as it normally should when locked. The only way to lock the drivers side door without pressing the button several times is to use the little key in the keyfob.

It does the same thing on the drivers side when i unlock the doors with the keyfob.

Any ideas/advice would be much appreciated :)

Hi Mate,

My Mercedes W203 COUPE 2003 has just developed the same problem, did you manage to find a solution for this?

Let me know please and if anyone else can shed any light/advice for this problem, I would apprieciate your help.

Thanks

I needed a new door locking module. The part from merc cost around £70 and i fitted it myself.

I think there is some sort of sequence you need to do with locking the door with key/pressing fob because it initially didn't work, but after some messing around it's fine.

Thanks for advice.

@MercNewbie: Is the "Door Locking Module" easy to locate/replace?

This has just happened on my 03 w211 - looks like a trip to the dealer......

is it the door lock required or central locking module? have you got a pic of what it looks like

C220 EVO COUPE Door locking issue

Hi mercnewbie, thanks for posting the info, I've got the same issue on my '03 220 Coupe. Do you have any pics or advice on installing the door lock? Is it a difficult thing to fit? Did you get off a dealer or a scrap yard / ebay?

Thanks in advance!

I brought it from Merc as it only cost around £75 in VAT.

It wasn't the hardest of jobs but it was time consuming because the window mechanism needed to be removed.

Is this the same thing? - a lock, or is it the electronic door module?

Depends who you talk to i guess.

In my case is was the part of the lock that the loom plugs into. Describe the problem to Merc and they diagnosed the problem over the phone. I suspected it was that because i had the same problem on my Golf :dk:

I've seen this on other makes of cars and it was the door lock mechanism that was causing the headaches, in one the mechanism was worn and would just "drop" back down like someone had pressed the button, causing the rest to lock instantly, on another it was the button itself getting stuck, causing the car to think that door had been unlocked as soon as the the rest were locked via the remote fob.

you'll have to do a little investigating to determine if it is the module or the lock, but the guys here will have seen this before i'm sure and you should get a fair few replies.

I'd be tempted, once it stops in the situation of not quite being locked, to try using the actual metal key in the door to lock it ;)

also what happens when your in it and the auto lock feature kicks in, or you use the button(s) on the dash ?

In my case the metal key did nothing to help as did pressing the auto-lock button lol
