NHi,
Yesterday on two occasions my comand just tripped out and then came back on, today it went off and it never came back on? I disconnected the battery for a short while and reconnected it. It slowly did come back to life but now its completely off and removing the battery did not work.

Any ideas?

I've ordered a MOST optical loop to bypass the CD changer to eliminate that unit and will also do the same for the phone module. If it still does not power up is the unit knackered? Also I believe STAR diagnostics can bypass the devices to see if the radio comes on, but this is a last resort. Comand-online have said the PSU is not repairable in the unit if this is the fault.

Any good retro replacement units suggested?

Regards,
Steve.

Possibly solved

I just bypassed the CD Changer with an optical loop and so far everything appears to be acting normal. Will give it a good test over the next few days.

Also, Comandonline want £45 plus postage for one of the optical loops but I bought an identical one off ebay for £5 and its perfect. Don't get me wrong Comandonline are the experts and i value their opinions and information but come on be real here, over £50 for an optical loop? I've seen a UK business stating theirs are the best and these were only £10.

Had a similar problem with my Comand on my W245, the telephone module got a bit wet and packed up. I bought a replacement from the bay which worked great until that got wet. Took the cover off the original original. cleaned it up and hey presto worked great. It is now above the carpet under the front seat and will no longer get wet. Bad original placement in my opinion.

They get wet because of a blocked drain pipe at the front. The water doesnt drain and comes into the car.

I've decided to remove the head unit and replace it with an aftermarket direct fit Android unit with so many more features and can connect the latest mobile phones via bluetooth for handsfree operation. Going to remove the unit today hopefully. Im pretty sure my fault is with the phone module but i've no plans to sell the car and fancy a change of head unit and will most likely bypass the phone module when i sell the car, putting the original unit back in.
