W203 Command & Mp3/ipod Capability

Does any one know if there is any sort of option to add mp3/ipod to the mercedes sat nav command unit on a 2001 w203 and to control it from the head unit/steering wheel?
ive been to a few local shops and only 1 place has said they can meet all my needs via an ipod connection with full functionality but this will cost 500 of my well earned pounds (i feel like its a bit much)

Any ideas? alternatives plaese?

YOu could look at the dension unit, but Ive got to be honest and say I wouldn't bother. Theyre pretty poor, although do sort of work.

Without changing the head unit the Dension is the only product that will work for you. It emulates a Cd changer.

I had an ipod adapter fitted into my E46 BMW (yes i said BMW) and had to trick the Head unit by spliting the tracks into 6 folders and 99 tracks per folder in order for the ipod to be fully recognised, will this be the same case in the merc?
