W203 - Engine Management Light lit and slow to accelerate
Hi Everyone,
Sorry but I have only recently joined the forum and am still a little green on searching for things, so I have created this new Thread! (hopefully!)
I have a W203 200K Avantgarde on a 51 plate, and today for the first time in 4 months since owning the car the engine management light has come on when driving home from work!
I used the car in the lunch hour and the car was very sluggish to accelerate when I drove it for the 10 mile trip! I though it might have been due to the fuel being just under a 1/4 tank, so I filled it up to 1/2 on the way home, but still no change!
The engine management light is still on permanently and I am very worried as anything like this tends to cost a shed load of cash to put right!
Has anyone else experienced this? the car runs smoothly and is not jerky or anything like that! (yet!!)
Any help or advice is very much welcome and appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Lewis.
==== Update following ====
OK today got a call from my Local Mercedes garage telling me of two problems, the first is the problem of the sluggish acceleration - this is due to an induction hose that has an air valve in it (I think that's how it was described to me?!) and this hose is twisted/collapsing when accelerating and requires the Exhaust manifld to be remmoved and is going to be apporx. £500.00.
The second problem is a plug on the front of the engine which is slightly dripping oil on to an electrical contact which could cause problems for the ECU if left and not fixed. Not a problem at present, but could potentially be later on!
Does any of this sound familiar to any one??

OK, all is now fixed, although please be warned when it comes to any aftermarket (non Mercedes) warranty...
Speaking to the very helpful chap in the Tony Purslow Mercedes garage in Basingstoke, he said that he was surprised to see that even my aftermarket warranty did not cover the follwing items whcih had to be replaced to cure the original issue...
1. Non-return air valve which is in a pipe which requires the exhaust manifold to be removed to access this and then refitting of the exhaust manifold. £500.00 inc VAT, Parts & Labour.
2. replace the oil seal on a sensor connected to the ECU on the front of the engine.
£85.00 inc VAT, Parts & Labour.
3. replacement of a cracked exhaust manifold, which was cracked along the seem.
£330.00 inc VAT, Parts & Labour.
I would highly recommend that anyone thinking about getting a warranty then make sure that you investigate the Mercedes option! I was told that the Mercedes warranty would have covered all of this work!
My after market warranty was the top of the range Premium Warranty from Warranty Wise (which is under written by Lloyds of London) but this warranty, in my opinion is not worth the paper it is written on, as none of the work (parts or labour) done here was covered by the warranty.
Even though I have the Wear and Tear cover, and MOT failure insurance none of this made the slightest bit of difference! Very bloody annoyed and I will cerainly be voiceing my disappointment to Warranty Wise on Monday, asking for a refund (very unlikely) and also a written letter to Lloyds of London.
PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THESE KIND OF WARRANTIES AND DO CONSIDER THE MERCEDES WARRANTY!!!
If anyone wants any more info then just ask, I'm more than happy to answer any questions!
Lewis.
