I have a 2001 C Class 2 litre Kompressor. Brilliant car. But he's telling me "ESP not available!" Any thoughts, folks? Our MB stealership can't look at him until Tuesday next. ANY ideas gratefully received! All fuses OK BTW.

Does the error reset if the engine is stopped and restarted? If so then this it is very likely that a sensor is broken.

ESP relies on data from various sensors, if one of those sensors fails then BAS/ABS/ASR/ESP/cruise and one or two other functions are disabled for safety reasons. There is a sensor at each wheel and also on the brake pedal, this is the one most likely to have failed and is also fairly cheap.

Thanks, will check now. Hope you're about for a while!

Hi there me again. Do you know where the wiring to the brake pedal switch is to be found? I've taken off the underpanel from the driver's side of the dash, but i cant see or feel any wires. Thanks again!

Er, dunno. I've never personally done the job but lots of other members have, maybe if we wait a short while someone else will answer, or you could search the forum for "brake switch" to see if any more info turns up.

I wish we had our 190E back!
The 190E probably has a similar brake switch but if it breaks no-one notices ;)

190e

That was a diamond car, flattened a GT Corolla and a 3i. When I traded it in, the bloke didn't even want a test drive. "It's a 190 mate, if it got you here it must be alright. Them cars are bullet-proof, so they are"

Top book price I got.

He got 6 grand for a 10 year old, 106K miler.

There's a lesson there somewhere.

hi
try follow up the brake pedel you should come to the brake switch, its held in by a bayonet style, twist half a turn and out it comes, mb dealers £10 approx,..

Hi Tzar & thanx for the reply. I've reset the "steering angle sensor" by doing the lock-to-lock thing. The malfunction does not appear now on the dash, but the engine management light stays on? Someone mentioned the multiplug at the ABS unit?

I have a mark 2 Escort Mexico. It goes (well) and no silly lights. The heater is rubbish though.

Disgusted from Tunbridge Wells etc.

Any thoughts?

Vielen Dank!

Andy
