hello!
Today i tried to remove the Mercedes iPod interface to reinstall an aux lead! BUT of course it didn’t go to plan!
I dropped the glovebox to find the original aux port, and also found that it was still connected in the passenger footwell! Not connected to the stereo as I first thought! However even with the iPod wiring disconnected it still would not work!
What am I missing?? Does it need to be re coded to say pay attention to the aux port?? I am completely lost!! What do I do please ?

Hi Benji,

Sorry just seen this as I'm about prepare to fit an Aux lead :)

I wonder if it's been disconnected from the stereo?

Command Online would be the experts to ask as I'm going to be speculating here but I would think the connection in the footwell lead back the stereo.

How was the ipod wiring connected?

Good luck!

the iPod interface was spliced into the main wiring harness for the stereo and had its own plug within the big plug which goes into the stereo. The aux connection is in the n/s kick panel area. But What I don’t know is where the connection for the stereo is. I didn’t get chance to trace the loom from the footwell to the stereo
If you can provide any assistance on what the hell im supposed to be looking for I’d appreciate it as it is a rats nest behind the stereo

It’s the command unit with sat nav and cd changer without HK

Installing an ipod lead into this W211 is not straight forward. Mercedes say its a three hour job. I do them in about 1 hour.

The parts consist of more than a lead. There is a control unit, loom adapters and Canbus wires. some wiring goes to the boot of the car too. Its not a trivial install by any means. Unless you are happy with changing the wiring in the car, then I suggest you let someone else do it for you. The W211 and R171 is particulalry difficult compared to other models when it comes ipod interfaces.

Probably easier to fit an android unit and bring it into the 21st century ;)

Sounds like you need to run it up to Alfie buddy.

I have just removed the trim to have a look and the wiring for the Aux plug does head to the rear of the car if it helps.

Maybe they wired a spare fuse in the for ipod connection so it could be switched back at some point.
