w203 no wipers or washers

I hope this is some help to anyone with the above problem, My son lost his wipers and washers on his c200cdi ,I checked the fuse then the switch in the bonnet catch ( you can just pull off the plug it is open with the bonnet shut)so after looking on the forum I bit the bullet and removed the air bag and steering wheel after disconecting the battery and the clock spring mech then the multifunction switch , I found that the wire that run inside the stalk were damaged as they entered the main body of the switch so I linked the damaged wires with some fine wire and pushed the joint into the stalk. IT WORKED. this is a tempory repair until i get a replacement so I have not refitted the air bag (I hate working on them)
