After owning my c32 amg for over a year, i still cant figure out the sat nav?it s rubbish as you cant put in a postcode at all, which is stupid, as that would clearly be easier then having to write an entire adddress! Also i can put in simple towns that are near me like dachet and its never heard of it!Does anyone know why this is at all, or anyone who knows how to operate this properly??cheers

You should be able to enter the first part of a postcode. I can on my COMAND, I believe there was a 2002 software update to the COMAND system which enabled post code entry.

As for entering Datchet are you sure you spelt it correctly (I assume the way you typed it above was a typo). Otherwise you may wish to try Slough or Windsor instead.

I had comand 2 on my 2002 clk, and can confirm that i had 5 digit post code entry, not sure what year teleatlas started that though

Unless I am using it completely incorrectly, I find the postcode functionality totally useless as well ! As I don't have a manual, there's every chance that I'm doing it wrong, but the first part of the postcode doesn't even seem to bring up anything relevant to the area that I'm looking for. My DVD is quite recent ... 2007, I think. . . has anybody got it working properly on a later version ?

I have to enter town, and then road - manually - its the only way to get an accurate destination in there.

ok so if it is because i need an updated disc what sat-nav disn would be the one to purchase next so that it works and isnt a pain in the ****!??

I have COMAND in my C55 and it works just fine.... I do find that the town name followed by street name works much better than the postcode option. I have the v10 disc but don't think it makes a lot of difference as I don't think the input methods have changed a lot recently...

I'm afraid it's not just the disc (in fact the disc you have may be okay). What year is your disc out of interest?

There is something called the 2002 software update. I believe you used to be able to get hold of it from dealers, most cars I believe were updated when they went in for services.

May be worth getting in touch with Alfie @ Comand.co.uk as they may be able to do this for you or tell you what to check to confirm which version of software you have?

Iirc if when you switch it on and the mb symbol comes up it means it already has the update.

I could well be wrong but I thought that they all did that???

I have both factory option Navigation systems, Comand and Smartnav. If you want to get from A to B Smartnav is better, quicker, more accurate, more timely with its instructions than Comand. Comand is better at getting you off roundabouts at the correct turnoffs because it has the graphics, and it obviously can display maps which can be helpful when touring. Comand does much more than just navigation that I wouldn't be without it but sometimes Smartnav is better. That said I used both simultaniously to get me home from MBworld and they both lost me and both chose different routes! Hurrah for technology:)
