just back from sunday outing, pulled on drive, switched off engine, locked up, no problems. later got back in car, forgot something, keys in ignition turned on display show's SRS FAULT VISIT WORKSHOP. car was fine all day. now what is SRS and any idea how to cure it. checked all fuses all ok , any idea's please.

SRS is Supplemental Restraint System. Airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and suchlike.

The best thing you can do is get it put on a STAR, which can read all the MB codes. Having said that it's fairly likely a front seat occupancy sensor (or its wires) has had enough. You can test it by unclipping a seatbelt when the seat is occupied and the car is moving. It should bring up the seatbelt warning in the cluster.

Yes, SRS light on is an MOT failure, it has been a failure since 30/3/2013
If light is permanently on it is a fail

How old is the car?

Mone had the clockspring go (in the steering column) - the wires breaking is a known issue and there's a service bulletin about it.

MB did it under goodwill when the car was 5yrs old, although I had ServicePlus and that would have covered it. I think it was more about inter-departmental money massaging - I'm dubious it would have been goodwill if they hadn't have had to pay for it anyway.

thanks, try and get it booked in for star tomorrow, hope its something simple. bring back my CLK. had it 3 years never a problem, c class im half frightened to turn it on, always seem's to be playing up.
