W203 stepper motor

I'm planning to fix clicking behind the dashboard.I think I can handle the job which isn't for faint hearted.I have few questions prior that,in order to remove upper dash I have to disconect the electronic ignition and instrument cluster and the battery.The unknown is how long I can work on the car without power and will I get some bad news on the display as Visit the Workshop which I dread.Help please!

After 2 days stripping the dashboard,finally the culprit is in my hands.No broken arms on what I think -left right foot flaps control so its got to be the stepper motor.It turns only clockwise.Steeler wants 120£ for new one,I cant afford it.Any suggestion welcome.Maybe I have to buy second hand one.Cheers
