Mercedes C Class 2010
Hello Everyone!

I'm new on here.

Recently bought a 2010 C-Class Mercedes. There are number of problems I'm experiencing which is shocking as its done just under 15k Miles!

It's my first big investment in a New Benz and its becoming a nightmare!

When I start the car it gives me a message saying 'Auto Lights Inoperative' the lights just turn on when i put in auto. There are also no interior lights coming on. even when i press the reading lights they do not seem to work. Ive checked all the fuses (in the boot and under the bonnet) and they all seem fine.

can anyone help with this please.

Thanks in advance

Is it out of warranty? Did you buy privately or from a garage/dealership? If the latter I'd take it back. Mercedes might also offer some goodwill if it has a full MBSH, worth a try.

Thanks for your reply

Is it out of warranty?
yes about 6 months out of warranty.

Did you buy privately or from a garage/dealership?

bought from leasing company

Mercedes might also offer some goodwil

they saying paying 250+ to diagnose problem before they can calculate cost of repair and then put good will claim forward

it also has a clunking noise going over uneven surfaces and pot holes.

having a nightmare with this car... I thought its a low mileage benz so you cant go wrong...

how wrong I was!

The clunking noise could be your ball joint or suspension arm where is it coming from? You say it is low mileage but the previous owner could of been an idiot driver. I have found milage means nothing on cars these days because I have owned some low mileage cars that are a pile of **** and high mileage cars that are sweet as a nut..

Difficult situation, will the MB dealer take account of the £250 diagnostic charge when submitting a claim for "good will" from MB? if not would they accept the diagnosis of a MB independent specialist, which would be considerably less, and get a quote for the repair as well.

It was due a service when i bought so I got it serviced from a MB garage... when they took it in I told them about the noise and the 'lights inoperative message' as part of there service they carry out a full check up and in that they said its the drop links and the lights need further checking.

so I went and got the drop links changed by an ex merc technician.. the noise was still there so I took it back to mercedes and told them they diagnosed it wrong they then checked it again and said the whole suspension needs changing and offered to do this for good will but I would have to pay £300+..

I then went to get it checked by another mechanic who spent a few hours checking it on a ramp.... apart from very slight play in right tyre we couldnt locate where the noise is coming from.... its like a thud/clunking noise which extremely weird and frustrating

regarding the auto lights & the interior lights not working I dont think diagnosing the problem will be that easy or cheap because any electrician will charge a bomb! I live in London as well so everything is atleast double what you would pay outside...

I wanted to know if anyone has experienced such problems before if so what could I start by checking first?

I've sent an email to Mercedes customer care but I doubt they will offer me anymore.

as soon as I get it all fixed im going to sell it on and never will I bother with a mercedes agaim! its seriously caused me a lot of agro and you dont need that when you are investing 12k+ in a fairly new premium car!

thank you all so much for trying to help... I really appreciate it.

I hope I can get to bottom of this and it can help others one day

Hey friends,

I faced the same Auto lights inoperative malfunction issue and while looking for the solution I landed on this thread but couldn’t find a solution. I came across a blog that explain these error codes. Though this thread is old, but I would like to share this blog here so when next time someone lands on this thread they can get the solution to their problem. Here is the link to that blog
