Recently purchased and great to drive but the noise from the engine makes my head ache when in traffic.

So has anyone installed additional soundproofing and was it successful? If yes what did you use? :dk:

Thanks in anticipation :thumb:

Are you sure that you don't have a problem with the engine.
I know its a diesel but you shouldn't hear the engine much sat in traffic, unless you have the windows open.
A pre stop/ start model presumably.

It is a pre stop start model and the noise is quite loud. Trip to the dealer may be required then ?

Try changing tyres/wheels. I changed mine from 16" and Contisport Contact 2's to 17" and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics - and it's whisper quiet now as well as comfortable and with excellent wet/dry grip and road holding. Contis were noisy.

This is a problem in traffic and definitely nothing to do with the tyres. Thanks anyway.

Hi, I've just bought a saloon prefacelift with the same engine. Never had one before so my impressions should be fairly objective. I can hear the engine faintly on idle, louder but not that loud when accelerating, and a quiet hum when cruising at 50 or 60. To be honest it sounds like a muted sewing machine.

The engine does sound slightly agricultural on start up and at idle, but I have never really noticed mine whilst sitting in traffic... definitely not loud enough for it to be an issue at least.

I think it's all a matter of what you're used to. I have a Petrol C350 and whenever I get into any diesel car, no matter what make and how new, they nearly always sound like a bag of nails at tick over. It's like when I was a kid and lived close to a railway line - friends were always commenting on the noise of the trains but I never noticed.

Mike, if you're going to be Ashford/Tenterden way any time, give me a call (PM) and come here for a comparison ride.

I have a c250 CDI (some differences in engine of course but quite similar) and like others have said it does not sound normal. Yes it is a diesel but it is no different really than other 4 pot diesels so if it is unbearable then you may have a problem.
