Hi all
I have retrofitted a 2nd hand Comand NTG4 (replacing audio 20) and the problem I have is when I plug in the power harness for the monitor it blows fuse number 11 in the sam box, the Comand will work although I have only switched the radio on and sound does come through the speakers, the confusing part is why does this fuse keep blowing, if I leave the power chord in and replace the fuse it instantly blows, pull the power out and I can replace the fuse no problem, plug power back in and fuse has blown, This is the 2nd Comand I am now installing as I was having the same problems with the first Comand and a diagnosis seemed to point to a faulty Comand. So I am now wondering has lightning struck twice and this head unit is also faulty although as with first unit the radio works ok, or there is something I have got wrong in the setup, I checked the wiring and that seems to match every other install, it should all work as its a case of just plugging in the extra loom but something is not right, has anyone else had this problem and found the solution, pulling hair out as cannot understand whats wrong. The Comand is from Lithuania but should not make a difference either as its a european model :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

I should have looked at the wiring diagrams but how did you wire up the new display unit? I thought the bigger display wiring was not compliant with the older display.

On the retrofit wiring loom you remove the original single power wire (blue/red stripe) to the audio 20 display unit (tape it up) and replace it with the new pair of wires(blue/red stripe) which goes into the exact same position which should be pin number 6 on a pink plug that fits underneath the Sam box, on the Comand it seems the display takes its power from the head unit where the audio 20 seems to take it directly from the Sam box, Since removing the original wire I have had no display on audio 20 also centre consul button no longer works.

Attaching some pictures not sure if I am doing it right so bear with me

I have solved the problem, I should have plugged the lead into back of monitor and not Comand, got a bit confused as there are two of these plugs identical, again original lead to audio 20 not needed

Hi,
Did you change the head unit just for the sat Nav function or was there another reason?
I have a new 204 but didn't want to pay extra for the command function...does it allow you to do anything else other than sat Nav?
Cheers, DJM

I changed it so I could have the sat nav with the flip open monitor, I also installed Dab which I dont think works on Audio 20

if you dont mind me asking, was it expensive to change? are you hoping to sell your audio 20 to recoup costs too?

Its fairly expensive, I bought Comand for £750 on ebay, paid £450 for retro kit, and £250 for Dab completer kit from Comandonline, Audio20 is only worth probably £150 and now need to update the Datacard which seems to be a Mercedes only job which will be 1 hours labour, Its a fairly difficult job to do so I saved on labour by doing myself but for the work involved you do get your monies worth if someone installs for you.

Hi all,
I am collecting mine c lass tomorrow it is a 59 plate sport BE 220 CDI with Audio 20 thing. I have been looking at fitting sat nav the question is on the fitment side of it, those that have fitted it, have you changed the vents and vent piping and added the fan? I am looking at getting it done by a company and they only change the front vents. This is the second company that have said you do not need anything apart from main front vent?. Does the vents behind need changing and the fan adding so the unit does not over heat or is it ok without? Any help is appreciated

Cars with Comand have the ducts and fan for a reason. If your prepared to take the risk of the unit overheating then thats your call.

Comand.co.UK did mine and they always install the ducts and fans. Ring mark or Richard and they'll sort you out.
