W204 C63 Newbie

That may well end up being the route I go :thumb:

I would Andy, This way if you get bored just simply swap. And if you do sell the car I’m sure someone here will snap the spares off you.

Assuming the Tyres could simply plug and go onto the new rims. Just means forking out 3k + for a set ☹️

Oil nicely up to temperature. I’ve always tried to get the oil properly up to temperature every time I’ve started the engine on both of my C63 , anybody else do the same?

Loving the fuel gauge reading, that's how it gets in order to warm the engine up I suppose :p

I’m sure it was on 1/4 full when I started the engine , maybe that’s why folk buy em and get rid quickly :D

On a serious note both of my C63 have averaged 20-21 mpg over several thousand miles, checked on fuel receipts not the onboard computer, which is exactly what I expected to get :thumb:

That is impressive economy , and should be achievable for most people with A road and motorway driving. Out of curiosity is the onboard computer economy lower or higher ?

Thanks. When I take the car out it’s usually to do 100+ miles on A roads , M Way if I have to, so usually not a lot of driving in traffic. Most I’ve seen on the computer is 27mpg over an 120 mile trip on the motorway with CC set at 70. I’ve found the onboard computer to be “optimistic” by about 5-6% on the C63, which isn’t too bad on accuracy compared to some cars I’ve owned. Worst I’ve seen was a genuine 17 mpg on shall we call it a “spirited drive” over the NY Moors to Whitby early one Sunday morning in winter ;)

Ok, back from the garage and modifications completed , as Andy ,cawkyuk , says “a difficult job but worth doing”

Reading all the threads on here about the C63, they are lethal unless you have a “Quiff” or a “WaveyTrack” Limittey Slippery Differy (I think I've got all the terminology correct , please advise if I haven’t ) and if you drive a 507 without a LSD you had better give your loved ones Dave222’s phone number, it’s probably going to be needed.

Apparently driving a C63 without said LSD is likely to make you S#&t yourself every time you go around a corner :(.

Now I don’t have the money for a LSD but I do have one of these (see picture below). If it should occur that I end up S#&ting myself in the C63 I will have genuine AMG toilet roll on hand to sort out the mess. Please note this is a genuine AMG accessory not an FleaBay knock off as the centre cap has three laurel leaves not two and a MB part number on the back. Now I’m able to give the 507 the full beans I’ll report back in due course on how effective this modification is :)

If I’ve not needed, or been able, to use the new accessory over the next few weeks and someone has a LSD and no toilet roll I willing to do a swap , cash my way if it’s a WaveyTrack as according to the experts the Quiff is better;)

I’ll keep you posted how things are going as I’m now looking at some other modifications :thumb:

Looks lovely Andy.
Keep the mods to “Bolt on” accessories. As it kind of ruins the originality when you start adding unnecessary stuff. Especially your stunning, low mileage example. All original and intact. Probably the best one I’ve seen upto now. Nice spec as is.
LSD is only good if you absolutely smashing it to pieces, IE- Race track. Otherwise it’s pointless for our British coronaian roads.
Stay safe

Hi Tom

I’ve been a bit slow to get into this “modding” stuff but apparently it’s the way to go with a C63 , unfortunately I’d only my shiny discs to talk about at car meets but with the enforced lockdown I’m getting stuck in , more to follow :thumb:

Absolute rubbish.

A Quaife or Wavetrac are Automatic Torque Biasing differentials and not Limited Slip Differentials. They work at slow speed just as much as at high speed. I don't powerslide my car on the open road but I can feel the Wavetrac giving me more traction and control.

I’m sticking with my Loo Roll :thumb:

On a road with 30 mph
&
National speed limit 70mph

I don’t think you need an LSD!

It's not about top speed, it's about putting the power down. Of course you don't need one but then you don't need a C63. To make best use of it then a better differential makes a noticeable difference even within legal speeds. Much better off the line for example.

Not sure if we are getting a bit of Thread Drift here, feel free to start your own thread on the benefits of a better diff versus a loo roll but the country is in crisis and this is intended as a lighthearted thread :thumb:
