I bought it off a young guy who got It from a relative as quite a large pile of rust and turned it into what you see.
. He was a welder at JCB and spent over 4 years restoring it but needed the money to do up a house , paint job was several £ks but looked great

That was my second one
, great shaped body on the Beetle chassis. Downside was they were absolute rot boxes and as the wings etc were not bolted on very expensive to repair correctly. I must dig out the photos of what it looked like when the guy pulled it out of an old wooden garage , which fell down when the car came out as it was holding it up

, and yes those stainless wire wheels were a real pain to clean , 72 spokes on each of I remember correctly , and they weighed a tonne

it did leak like a sieve but no worry because “they all do that” There were 2 of those with on our european road trip last summer, v nice but limited luggage space

A mate has one ( his 5th I believe) and regularly does weeklong trips to France with his wife and just one (not particularly large) suitcase on the rack. Moggie owners have to have a clip on brake light to use when a case is fitted as it obscures the factory one.

Whilst I was at it I ran a drill bit through the holes in the disc as I’d read stories of these becoming totally blocked with brake dust etc. Thankfully very little came out but as it’s a 5 minute job with doing
