W204 - The gap between the bonnet and the windscreen ....

.... where the wipers are fixed (I'm sure it must have a techincal name ?? ) on my newly acquired pre-owned W204 C280 (2007/8 version), has a bodywork coloured mesh cage on the passenger side, but nothing equivalent on the driver side. Should it have one on both sides (and if not why not) ?? I am compiling a list of warranty / minor detail issues, to have corrected by the dealer and wondered whether a missing mesh cage should be on the list.

Any chance of a piccy or two to illustrate exactly what you mean? I can then compare it with my W204...

Thanks for the offer. Piccys a bt difficult at the moment, although I might try later. Its very easy to see. If you pull the wipers away from the screen, on the pax side the 'well' has a flattish metal cage over it whereas this is completely absent on the drivers side. I think either the two sides are meant to look roughly similar or completely different. Mine are completely different .

mine are both black - there is only black plastic between the windscreen and the bonnet (it's a silver car - 2008 model W204 sport)

There are a couple of "grille" sections - but again, they are both black.

I'd be curious to see some pics of this too!

OK, I see what you're getting at now. Hopefully you'll be pleased to hear that your car looks just like mine in that particular area, so there's nothing "missing" or untoward. The mesh that you can see on the passenger side is the air intake for the heater / ventilation system.

Yes, nice and shiny as it was Starguard'ed by the dealer a month or so ago (although the real shine is in the window reflection ...). However, I washed it yesterday and it is really depressing to see how dirty it still is. I think this is something I should maybe leave to the professionals !!

Just for future reference, the panel underneath the windscreen where the wipers live is known as the scuttle.
