Hi all

Popped into a local MB dealer to get some info on the new C Class which I'm hoping to be in a position to order at the end of this year.

The good news is that even though I want a lot of options, the C200 is within my budget.

The bad news is that both UK option packages include the panoramic sunroof and these packages are the only way of getting full electric seats, ambient lighting, keyless start, entry and auto boot. I'd like these options but I don't want a panoramic sunroof because:

  1. I feel it's something more suited to larger vehicles.
  2. I don't want to risk creaks, rattles, cracks and other noises that many owners with panoramic sunroofs have reported.
Since air conditioning became common the number of cars with sunroofs has dropped substantially and so MB UK's decision to include the panoramic sunroof in both option packages seems odd. Also odd is that upper dashboard and beltline artico leather and paddle gear shifters are only included with the AMG Line.

Do you think after the June UK release date for the W205 we'll see more flexibility in options and packages?

The only options I would want are a 6-cylinder engine (alas not going to be available apparently), and instructions on how to remove the stuck-on iPad thing.

To answer your question, no.

From my experience, the MB panoramic roofs are superior to many other manufacturers.
I don't know of any particular model that commonly suffers with "creaks, rattles, cracks and other noises". There is the odd report, but not enought o make you worry.

If you were considering a Mini then you should avoid a pano roof at all costs apparently.

One thing to be aware of is that panoramic roofs are a "grey area" as far as insurance companies are concerned meaning that they may well not form part of the "glass cover " part of the policy. [ as discussed in the recent KIA thread] Damage and replacement to a panoramic sunroof would therefore be under the "claim " category of your insurance record. Potential buyers of the new W205 with said option packages might want to check the small print of their policies. :dk:

I have a pano roof on my 2012 W204. I'll admit that I rarely use it, but it's wonderful for giving the car a much airier feeling (with the blind pulled right back of course). And I'm delighted to report that in the two years I've had the car I haven't heard a single creak or rattle from it - nor anywhere else for that matter :D. Although it seems an expensive way of getting the other options you want (a £1350 option when I bought mine), all of which I agree are desirable.

I had to get one on my wife's Honda Jazz when all she really wanted was a leather steering wheel and front fogs! Granddaughter loves it though. :)

hmm a C400 Luxury model looks nice :) Shame we aren't getting either the engine or the grill :(

Hi all, Many thanks for all the useful feedback, excellent food for thought.

Almost 100% ditto for me. Makes a huge difference to the light into the car all year round. I have certainly used it whenever I could and I like the fact that it can be open to any degree that you choose. The kids in the back also love it!
