Upon the last service we got a note that the pads were a little low, and would need changing before the next service was due. The report stated that the fronts were worse than the rear, so the MOT is due this week so i book it in to my local Merc indy for new front pads and and MOT. Just had a call saying yes the front pads have a couple of thousand miles left in them, but the rears are literally about to break through to the sensor

So ive authorised new pads all round - £850 all in. Nice start to the week :) :)

Presuming this is ball park? They are a good Indy who ive used for a few years when we had our A45

I'm no expert but £850 sounds very expensive for just pads. Thinking i'll be having this conversation myself in 5000 miles time though, particularly as i've just done a 2 day performance driving course with lots of sustained, heavy braking....

I think I was quoted that sort of cost at my local main dealer in the past. Got an indie to do them for quite a lot less than that IIRC

Pads are an easy job, shouldn't be more than 1-2hrs labour. It's so simple you really don't need to be paying dealer rates, it's just burning money unnecessarily. Ask for the split between parts and labour. Pads can be bought elsewhere from brands like Brembo for a fraction of the cost, even if you wanted to keep to official parts you could save a decent sum.

Ok so picked the car up, the bill was cheaper than what was quoted over the phone so well happy!

Front pads including fitting, sensors and VAT were £396
Rear pads including fitting, sensors and VAT were £386

From the part numbers on the invoice, Brembo pads have been fitted. Perhaps not the cheapest, but all done in 1 day, by a reputable indy, with no hassle to me about ordering or receiving wrong or missing parts etc

Out of curiosity, how many miles did you get out of your pads?

The dealership told me to expect new rear pads at my next service (due mid 2022). That'll be around the 18k mile mark.

I got quoted that by MB dealer for rears on mine a couple of months ago. Local indy did it (same Brembo pads) for £210 all in.
Dealers have folks' eyes out on jobs like this.

Main Dealer = Main Stealer ! Additionally, whilst they are good for new/recent marks, they’re rarely as knowledgeable on older cars. I have two CLK200 cabrios - W208 & W209. My local independent Merc specialist knows them inside out & will advise on & fit used parts if viable & safe. Independent Specialist every time for me.

Reading this makes me glad I did my own pads front and rear on my E63.
Ceramic low dust pads front and rear plus 2 new wear sensors, under £120. Took around around 5 hrs plus a few brews.
