Hi,

My first post here so please be nice to me. I am in the market for a W208 CLK. I have been doing a bit of research on prices etc but I am a bit confused about the specs. I see a lot of 1999/2000 cars which are advertised as facelift models.

Can someone tell me what the updates were for the facelift? Exterior, interior and engine if poss.

Sorry if this has already been asked but I looked around and couldnt find a thing.

Hi,

Exterior changes included different bumpers, side skirts added, indicators moved from the wings to the door mirrors. Probably different alloys too, mine has AMG, so not sure on the standard wheels.

Interior changes included steering wheel controls for the stereo etc.

I'm not sure whether the pre facelift cars had the tiptronic gearbox that the later car has.

AFAIK, the 'sportier' non AMG model was the 'Sport' pre facelift, and 'Avantgarde' post facelift.

I'm sure there are more, and someone more knowledgable will be along shortly... :) ;)

No aerial on the rear quarter panel. On facelifts, it's in the screen.

Have a look at the thread in my signature, where it says 'For Sale'.
There are some more differences if you read through there.

Was the facelift done in 1999? ie. will all 2000 models be facelifted?
It started in 2000.

CLK 230K:142Kw 193CV – 280Nm @ 2500 g/min;
CLK 320K: 160Kw 218CV- 308 Nm @ 3000 g/min.
CLK 430K: 205Kw 280CV – 400Nm @ 3900 g/min;
CLK 55 AMG: 255Kw 347CV- 510 Nm @ 3000 g/min.

That's because I havent decided which one to go for. Its gonna be a toss up between a big engined coupe (430) or a small engined convertible (200 or 230).
It is not small a 2,000 cc!
I am more than happy with a 230!

Not being biassed in any way, shape or form, but our 230K Cab goes really well.
I was pleasantly surprised at the 230 engine.

Did they use the same engine throuhout on the 230? What kind of mpg does it give on average?
IIRC, the earlier 230k's were actually a 2.3ltr (as mine is), but on later models, the 230 could be a 1.8ltr.
No doubt someone will add to / correct me.

As for mpg, not 100% sure.
It's the mrs car and she only does about 30 miles per day in it.
A full tank normally lasts her just over 2 weeks.

Are you good in math.?
Highway (max 130 km/h): 8.3L/100km calculated on more than 1,500 km;
Town (Rome): 14L/100km calculated on 200 km (I use my Honda Foresight!).
Regards

It's back to the age old conundrum - what's your priority - economy or performance? Open top or closed? While one person may be happy with either a 200 or 230 - if you want more power then you might not be.

You need to go and drive a couple and get a feel for them tbh.

When I was looking for my SLK people told me "Oh the 200 will be fine for you!" yeah right -OK well the 230 deffo will - nope try again - the 320 suits me fine. But I had to drive the others first to be sure, because it's all about handling as well as power and economy.

For me it would be the bigger engine almost every time:o Mercs are generally big heavy cars so need big lumps if metal under the bonnet to get them moving ;)

i've got the clk230 komp. it does about 32mpg on the motorway and probably aroung 23-25 in local traffic.

i think the 230 engine is great. plently of power but economical too.

The supercharger sounds nice too:rock:

things that changed from pre to post facelift:

- bumper lowers ONLY
- colour coded bump trim (pre-facelift's they were a duller colour of the body - noticable on silver mainly)
- indicators in wing mirrors
- buttons on steering wheel
- multi-function trip computer (cluster)
- tiptronic gearbox
- part-electric seats standard with easy entry

thats it.

cheers
