Is it possible for a heated rear screen to "sorta" work?

Noticed this morning that it took an age to start clearing but there were definate clear areas ariound each element so something was happening. Thinking about it, when I first got the car the rear screen interferred like mad with the radio but that seems to have died down if not vanished all together

Ta!

Anybody?

My w203 did that, then it started working again but every time you put it on, the radio reception died....eventually traced to an iffy wire to the aerial amp...fixed by stealer under warranty

Looks like my heated rear screen is on way out/has packed up which sounds expensive

What are we talking about in terms of cost? Or has anybody got alternatives?

I always thought that a rear screen element is a continuous “wire”, either it works or it doesn’t, if it doesn’t then it has a break in the circuit, it can’t "sorta" work.

The amount of humidity inside the car, on the glass, would play a part in how long it takes the heat to clear the glass. Perhaps there is dampness/water inside the cabin or boot.

you could need a new rear screen if element broken (expensive) I've got one from my 2000 model I'm breaking and my friend has a windscreen business so could fit it for you if needed. he covers all of northwest area. get a second opinion 1st tho. if it's only a couple of bars not demisting it's probably not worth changing

my mate with auto glass business says it's probably not the screen itself. that would normally shown gradual breakdown not instant failure. the relay for this is same as wiper/indicators/hazards are these operating normally?

Hi,
Check the connections at the screen itself.
As the rear screen has a second element in it for the radio, I believe MB in their infinite wisdom fitted a suppressor to the heated screen element feed, the fact you have radio interference would seem to point to this.
