Just 3 days to fix this fault! - info posted on here so's no-one else ends up in therapy:
(truncated story)
at various stages, symptoms included:
Driver's window not responding to centre console switch - all other functions e.g. soft closure, fine.
Both front windows totally inoperative. Rear windows okay.
Soft top switch illuminated, ready to go, but nothing happens when switch pressed.
Soft top opens halfway, then everything (top, windows, mirrors, etc) inoperative.
Soft top attempts to open with rear head restraints raised (not good to watch!)
Door mirrors completely inoperative.
etc. etc.
These symptoms happened independently, together, all the odd stuff you could wish for.
Cause:
Dodgy connection within the amp plug connector for the soft top control module, now it works, now it doesn't, now the canbus is full of garbage, now it isn't.
Main message: the fact that, on the cabrio at least, the soft top control module is the host processor for lots of stuff (including the window switches!) means that confusing and widespread 'my car's gone mad' type symptoms are possible with just a minor fault.
Now for a beer.
I love my Vectra.
