W208 Siren Location?

Does anyone know where the siren is located on a RHD 2001 CLK?
I've read conflicting reports of it being in the left or right wheel arch behind the liner, or behind one of the front foglamps.

The reason I'm looking is I think I may need a replacement. Fuse F5 in the rear fusebox keeps blowing, and while the lid says this is only for the interior boot light, some investigation has led me to think the siren is using the same fuse.
It's at this point I found out I should hear it when I lock the car, or put it in panic mode

I've looked around for a how to and can't find one, but I apologise if this is one of those questions that keeps on getting asked.
Cheers

Hi,
The alarm siren is in the passenger side wheel arch, you need to remove the front wheel arch liner to gain access to it. Regarding hearing it on locking/unlocking this is only available on the replacement sirens and needs to be switched on/off via STAR, though it could be automatically enabled once the new siren is fitted, which it was in my car.
Panic mode in this alarm system? As far as I,m aware this was never a function of the alarm.

Cheers for that. It'll save me taking half the car to bits.
I'm sure I found that a few quick presses of the lock button on the fob triggers the indicators to flash constantly as if the alarm were going off.
I'll try it again when I go out to the car just to make sure.
Thanks for the info on the new sirens too. I'll let you know how I get on.

When you do the job, make sure you have to hand a T30 torx bit, the type with the hole in the centre, I think they are known as a security type.

Thanks again for your help.
Done it!
Found the siren behind LHF fog light. Taking the whhel liner off certainly gave more access, but I reckon you could get enough access by just removing the cover between the bumper and the wheel arch.
Mine took a T35 security bit.

Disconnected the siren and now the boot light works and the fuse doesn't blow.
Figured the siren is at fault so I opened it up (not easy) and found loads of corrosion from the leaking battery and connection to the circuit board. It's so bad there's no chance of repairing it. Shame as the siren looked like new from the outside.
I'm doubting whether to chance a used one now.
Check the stealer price on Monday

If anyone has one kicking around?...

I think that "panic mode" was just me setting the alarm off somehow? No way have I been able to do it again Doh!

Sirens are rarely much cop sourced from the breakers as most will have suffered the same issues as yours. It is normally damp and leaking back up battery which can also cause PCB board damage.
A new one is available from MB circa £70-80 if memory serves.

Greetings... Just about to change the siren on my 1999 320 CLK Convertible. The lights have been reacting strangely every time the car gets wet, so, after much research on these forums, I've bitten the bullet and bought the part from the MB headquarters in Milton Keynes... The new part number is: A219 820 3226. The part cost me £91.20 including VAT.

Great article- My F5 in the boot was blown on my CLK230 and it was, as advised- the alarm siren. Anyone reading this and a little confused- In UK- remove front passenger road wheel- jack up and support the car- remove the plastic cover (horizontal one, not the one in the wheelarch) and you will see the siren on a rusty bracket. Unscrew with a 30mm security torx driver it drops down, then wrestle with the electrical plug and unplug it. Use some tape to insulate the wiring connector and a cable-tie to isolate the wiring- as you should replace the siren as its part of the security sytem etc.
Boot light now working and no F5 blowing. I still need to find the drain on my battery, but who knows:-) ?
