Car
W208 + AMG
I have a CLK 230K, W208 (1999) and I do not use it much, current mileage is about 40K.

Although I have looked after the car it is not near the mileage for a normal timing belt change, but the years are creaping by. I suspect that the rubber belt (assuming its not a chain) will perish over time, any ideas if this should be changed?

It's got a timing chain.

General rule of thumb ref cambelts and alt/fan belts is 70k or 5 years whichever comes first, but thats now old hat and some cam belts are good for 100k, except yours because it hasnt got one!

The flat alt/fan belt as fitted to most modern vehicles lasts for absolutely years and if you can see more than 8 small cracks per inch its toast.

Normally referred to as a hyvo belt and the numbers on the belt are its size and number of grooves ie 1220Xpk8 is 1220mm long with 8 rubs.

Bet you wont see anything wrong with your alt belt.

Always worth a test wiggle of all the pulleys that the belt runs on a little play is okay.
